To dance is basically to let go and see what comes out of it. It doesn't matter if you are dancing freestyle or to a routine. These tips should help either way.
1. Pick your music. It is always hard to decide which hip hop songs are best to dance to. But here's a hint. Missy Elliot will never steer you wrong. Her music is easy and fun to dance to. The upbeat rhythm is perfect for those quick moves that look fantastic when done correctly but it also adds funk to what you are trying to say with your body.
2. Listen intently. It is probably a good idea to listen to your song or mix a few times to get a feel of where the breaks in the music are and when you need to dance the hardest. Remember sounds that you can put a hot move to such as a hip on a specific drum. These are the points in the music when you will have the most attention.
3. Moves. Try the song in parts. Play the first few 8 counts of the song and try to come up with something for that part before proceeding. You can continue to do this with each 8 count until you've got something.
4. Check. Make sure you have new fresh moves that will interest people and make them want to pay attention. If you have seen it before, you probably need to think of something else. Be creative with your moves and don't be afraid to be different.
5. Mix it all together. After you know that your moves are clean and fresh, start putting the 8 counts together. Maybe dance to the first half of the song and see how it goes. If you don't like something, go ahead and change it before you move on. It's much easier that way.
# Put it all together. When you think you might have it, go ahead and try to do the whole song. If you can't remember something, no problem -- something else will probably fall into place without you realizing it.
# Tape yourself. If you are really attached to the moves you have thought up, tape yourself and watch it when you feel you need a little refresher.
# Clothing. The best thing to wear while dancing would be black stretch pants and a t-shirt or wife beater. For women, having your hair up in a bun helps your vision while you dance. It's better to see where you are dancing. Special dance shoes would help much with certain moves such as a double or triple turn or turns in seconds.
# Relax. Now that you know what to wear and how to choose your music for your dance, tape yourself doing the dance giving it your all, and then relax and show it to friends later. Who knows -- maybe you and your friends could form a group and dance together.
